☆Lady in Satin Billie Holiday & Ray Ellis -
Violets For Your Furs (Columbia
(アップロード日: 2011/11/11)
【"Violets for Your Furs" is a 1941 song written by Tom
Adair and Matt Dennis. The song describes the wearing
of Violets with Furs on an evening in Manhattan. Lady
in Satin is an album by jazz singer Billie Holiday
released in 1958 on Columbia Records, catalogue CL
1157 in mono and CS 8048 in stereo. It is the next
to final album completed by the singer and released
in her lifetime (her final album, Billie Holiday, being
recorded in March 1959 and released just after her death).
The original album was produced by Irving Townsend, and
engineered by Fred Plaut. Unlike the bulk of Holiday's
recordings, rather than in the setting of a jazz combo
Holiday returns to the backdrop of full orchestral
arrangements as done during her Decca years. The album
consists of songs Holiday had never recorded before.
The arrangements were by bandleader Ray Ellis. Soloists
on the album included Mel Davis, Urbie Green, and bebop
trombone pioneer J.J. Johnson.
Billie's accompanied by Urbie Green, J.J. Johnson,
Tom Mitchell (trombone) Phil Bodner, Tom Parsley,
Romeo Penque, Ed Powell (reeds) Janet Putman (harp)
Bradley Spinney (xylophone) Mal Waldron (piano)
Barry Galbraith (guitar) Milt Hinton (bass) Don
Lamond (drums), Ray Ellies (arranger, conductor)
unidentified strings, harp, vocal choir. Recorded
February 20, 1958, New York. (Columbia Records)】

☆Shock Doctrine in Japan: Shinzo Abe's Rightward Shift to Militarism
(公開日: 2014/01/15)
《http://www.democracynow.org - Democracy Now! is
broadcasting from Tokyo, Japan, today in the first
of three special broadcasts. At a critical time for
Japan and the region, we begin our coverage looking
at the country's rightward political shift under
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was re-elected just
over a year ago. As head of the Liberal Democratic
Party, Abe is known as a conservative hawk who has
pushed nationalistic and pro-nuclear policies. In
December, he visited the controversial Yasukuni war
shrine, which honors Japanese soldiers who died in
battle, including several war criminals who were
tried by the International Military Tribunal after
World War II. The visit sparked outrage from China
and South Korea, who consider the shrine a symbol
of Japanese militarism, and its refusal to atone
for atrocities committed in the first half of the
20th century. We speak about Japan's increasingly
pro-nuclear, nationalistic stance with Koichi Nakano,
professor at Sophia University in Tokyo and director
of the Institute of Global Concern.
